Count Jacked-ula

A spoof fighting game screen for an indie short film, in authentic 90s arcade game style.

I enjoyed designing this spoof fighting game screen for an indie short film called “Seedlings”, directed by Alfred Jenkins. The short features a player character facing off against final boss “Count Jacked-ula”. I created Jacked-ula’s final appearance based on a sketch from the director.

I used Aseprite and Godot Engine to render the graphics. Using a real game engine provided an extra touch of mid-90s arcade game authenticity, since I could use shaders to mimic the scanline-based ripple and dissolve effects you might see in a SNES or Genesis-era title.

Even the fonts are old and corny! (Full disclosure: my favorite kinds of fonts are old and corny.)
